A Super hero birthday party for Daniel!

Happy Birthday Daniel!  I can't believe that you are 10 already!  I am delighted by your curiosity, creativity and desire to learn.  I am thankful that you ask questions and are engaged with the world around you.  I am learning more because of the questions that you ask!  I am so thankful for you and love being your mom!  You are an answer to prayer.  I love you and look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with you!  Love, Mom
He was very excited that Christopher was able to be home on his birthday since it fell on a Saturday.  First up, was a huge breakfast.  One of our birthday traditions is for the birthday person to choose the food for the day.  Daniel chose bacon, cinnamon rolls, chocolate milk, orange juice and eggs.  Some foods that we don't have too frequently.  :)
His brothers staged a surprise scenario in order to receive his gift.  This has been something that they have enjoyed creating for several years.  This one is a super hero scene and here is the bad guy waiting.

Spiderman and his accomplice running to meet him.
The fight is on.
I love how they go all out in designing the scene, setting the stage and getting into their roles.  They really make this a fun part of his birthday!
Such a fun theme and Rebecca and Hanna got into the fun of dressing up too.  :)

We saw so many great ideas for a super hero cake - most of them were way out of my talent and experience league!  Rebecca looked at some though and decided that she could make them!  And she did!  She used the templates here and copied the design onto wax paper using melted colored chocolates.  We then put these on top of the cupcakes.  Her sweet friend Hanna helped make them too.  Don't they look awesome?!
 Another fun picture.
We played a variety of games from guess how many super heroes in the  jar (Lego ones) to Super Hero Who Am I?  Each person had a symbol on their forehead and had to ask questions to try to figure out who they were.  You can get the printables for these here as well as other great super hero printables.
We made a huge spider web.  I tied a piece of candy on each end so that each person had a starting place and knew when they were at the end.
It was trickier than it looked and was fun to watch them get into the web.
Most of them finished it, but few just gave up without getting to the candy at the end.  It took some work to set up - and for them to go through - but it was fun and worth doing!
We played a charade game where a super power was acted out and the others had to guess.  Some that we used included the following:
   *sees through walls
   *fly
   *super strength
   *speed
   *healing/regeneration
*ability to remove senses (like inflicting blindness)
   *agility/reflexes
   *immortality
   *time travel
   *magnetic forces
   *elasticity
   *invisibility
We found that it really helped to have two people acting things out.  This was fun and went pretty quickly.
We gathered for cake and then opening gifts.
Now it was time for another spider game.  I had planned more outside games, but it was forecasted to rain so then we moved plans inside.  It ended up being beautiful though.  This was a game with people in teams and each team tried to get more silly string on the other team.
The "rules" were loose and a little vague, but that didn't stop the fun at all!
Silly string is always a hit!
The last game was a spider race.  Each team/pair had to link arms with their backs facing each other.  Then move from the beginning line forward to a second line and then back again.  Its harder than it looks because one person is always backwards.
We enjoyed a taco bar for dinner and then watched the Lego movie on the "big screen" (projector onto a sheet).
It was a fun party and what a great theme to work with!  I highly recommend this theme if you have a child that would enjoy it.  Lots of fun!

Delightful day with family and friends celebrating 10 years of life for Daniel!

Daniel's Lego Birthday Party

What a fun time we had celebrating Daniel's birthday!  He wanted a Lego party which was so easy to plan as there are tons of great ideas online to choose from!  I'll share some of the links that we used at the end of this post.

We started the day with a breakfast of his choice.  Then his brothers had planned a story scavenger hunt for him.  This has become somewhat of a tradition that they all really enjoy.  Daniel as Batman at his computers with Alfred assisting him.

Watch out for the bad guys lurking about.

Batman is on the look out.

Batman takes down the criminal.  (Any of you fans recognize who he is?)

At the end of the activity, Daniel receives a gift from his brothers.  Bet you can guess what it is.  Legos.  Batman Legos.

We went to the Lego store earlier in the week so didn't go on his actual birthday.  He did get more Legos as gifts.

We decorated for the party.  The Lego bags make a great window banner!

Gift bags for our guests.  The Superman figures were from the free Lego build at the store earlier this month.

We printed minifigure pictures for each child to design as our starting activity.  Those ended up not being used then though.  They were engaged in other things.  One of those was guessing how many Legos were in the Jar.

The plates were just square plates with a piece of yellow cardstock added to the top and a face drawn on with sharpie.

Then we started with the games.  First was Lego block tossing game.  This was a huge hit!

We used 10 bricks for each turn and then added up points at the end of each round.
Eliana was surprisingly good at this.

Though Rebecca was the top scorer!

It was fun for all ages.

The Straw game was also a great activity.  Each person had a straw and a cup.

We spread Legos out on the table.

The were to pick up as many bricks as possible using only their straw and then put them into their cups.

Next was I Spy the Lego Guy.  We hid 9 guys since Daniel was 9 years old.

We hid these in several rooms int he house and there was a mad dash to try to find them all.

We also played a fun Lego Bingo game.
Eliana joined in with some help.

Opening gifts from sweet friends.

Cake and ice cream.

The last game was Creationary.

This was such a fun theme!  I highly encourage it if you have a Lego lover in your house.  Here are some of the links that I used for ideas and creative encouragement!

LOTS of links to share!

Another Awana Post

Doing a little catching up on May as I work through hundreds of photos from our last field trip and beach trip.  :-)  Gotta love digital when you can take soooo many pictures.

I posted about Daniel's Sparky award already.  (Click on the link to read more.)  He continued to work on his verses until  he had done all of the review work and the extra verses too.  He has earned all that he can at this level.  He worked so very hard and more importantly, he is learning to hide God's work in his heart.  I pray that it will bless and benefit him his entire life!  Way to go Daniel!

Eliana also worked hard with her verses this year.  Here she is with one of her wonderful Cubbies leaders.  Many of the leaders are students who volunteer their time to serve.  This sweet leader has been with her for 2 years.  She will be missed next year!
Can you see how very proud my sweet girl is of her reward?  Look at that face!  I love it!  She completed her book again this year!
Also this year, she was given a special award.  Last year, she signed most of her verses.  This year we worked with signs and words.  She said her verses this year often with me doing the signs with her.  She has grown and improved so much.

What a delight too when I see others enjoying our little girl.   I'm so thankful to be a part of this group - an encouraging and uplifting place to be sure!  Thank you Nikii and David for all of your work this year.  You will be missed!!!
This program has been a great practical way to work on memorizing more Bible verses.  Thankful to be a part!

Blessings,
